Qatar has been announced as the host country for the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2027, marking the first time the tournament will be held in the Middle East.

The decision was made by the FIBA Central Board during a meeting in Mies, Switzerland. Qatar was chosen over the other candidate countries, namely Russia and Indonesia.

The tournament, which takes place every four years, will see 32 teams from around the world competing for the title of world champion. The event is expected to draw large crowds of basketball fans from all over the globe, as well as media coverage and attention.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the country to showcase its sports facilities and infrastructure on a global stage, and for basketball fans around the world to experience the passion and excitement of the tournament in the Middle East.”

The President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, Sheikh Saud Bin Ali Al-Thani, expressed his delight at the news, saying, “We are honored and excited to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2027. Preparations for the tournament are expected to begin soon, with a focus on ensuring that the necessary facilities and infrastructure are in place to host a world-class event.
