The State of Qatar has reiterated its commitment to standing by the Palestinian people and their just cause until they reclaim all of their legal rights and establish full sovereignty as a separate state with East Jerusalem as its capital based on the borders of 1967.
This was stated by Qatar during an interactive dialogue on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ report on the state of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and the commitment to uphold accountability and justice. The speaker was HE Dr. Hind Abdul Rahman Al Muftah, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN in Geneva.
HE the Permanent Representative expressed the State of Qatar’s appreciation for the High Commissioner’s efforts in compiling and analyzing the wrongs done to the Palestinian people as well as its criticism of the Israeli government for preventing UNHCR employees from entering the Palestinian territories under occupation.
Her Excellency strongly denounced the occupation authorities’ ongoing flagrant violations of international laws and conventions, which were mentioned in the Commission’s report, as well as their illegal and disproportionate use of force. She also strongly denounced the ongoing violence and killings carried out by settlers who were shielded by Israeli forces in an environment marked by complete impunity and accountability.
She emphasized that Israel’s continued violations, racist policies, and attempts to legitimize illegal settlement, as well as its increased aggression and crimes against civilians, including women and children, and its imposition of collective punishments on the Gaza Strip, will cause the Palestinian people more suffering, violate their right to self-determination, and demolish any chance of a just, lasting, and cooperative solution.
Her Excellency urged the international community to act quickly to put an end to Israeli aggression, end the occupation, safeguard Palestinians, and hold Israel responsible for its heinous crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territories. She also commended the General Assembly for asking for an advisory opinion on the legal ramifications of the Israeli occupation.
