Nigeria wins the 2023 Women’s World Cup

The Super Falcons’ experience at the Women’s World Cup has come to an end, as they were defeated by England in a penalty shootout.

Nigeria came so close to becoming the first African country to win a knockout match at the Women’s World Cup. In a penalty shootout, they were defeated 2- 4 by the Lionesses of England.

Nigeria will be left regretting all of its missed opportunities during the 120-minute encounter that ended in penalties. While the Falcons can be proud of their efforts, they were unable to capitalize on their one-woman advantage after England’s Lauren James was sent off in the 87th minute. After losing possession, James stamped on Michelle Alozie’s back.

England, the Euro 2022 champions, were given a fright but survived to meet Colombia or Jamaica in the quarter finals on Saturday.
