Russian Navy Day is attended by African leaders in St. Petersburg

On Sunday, African leaders joined Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg for the annual Navy Day celebration.

The Russia-Africa Summit, which took place in St. Petersburg last week on July 27 and 28, brought together the presidents of the Republic of Congo, Mali, Eritrea, and Burkina Faso.

Putin praised the “courageous crews of Russian ships and submarines” who are taking part in the offensive in Ukraine during his statement prior to the military parade. He specifically praised the Black Sea fleet, which frequently participates in bombardments.

According to Putin, “our sailors are giving their all, displaying true heroism, and fighting valiantly in the name of Russia, just like our great ancestors.” In his remarks, he didn’t bring up the war in Ukraine.

Around 3,000 servicemen and 45 surface and submarines took part in the parade in the former imperial capital to commemorate Russian Navy Day, which is widely observed throughout the nation.

Following the event, Putin accompanied the visiting African leaders on a boat ride to the port city of Kronstadt, where he swore to “implement” the agreements reached with them just days earlier.
