Vincent Biruta, the foreign minister of Rwanda, is in Jordan for a two-day business trip. He met with his counterpart Ayman al-Safadi on Wednesday (08/9) in Amman.
According to Biruta, Rwanda has chosen to open a diplomatic mission in Amman as the two countries work to strengthen their relationship.
“This is an important step to carry our cooperation forward for further collaboration in areas of mutual interest,” he continued.
Following the signing of an agreement on visa exemptions for diplomats in February of last year, the two nations resolved to suspend visa requirements for residents entering each other’s country.
“The signing of this agreement will help boost people-to-people exchange between our two countries and enhance tourism activities, as well as trade and investment,” Biruta said.
“The ongoing visit of a high-level delegation between our two countries are the result of the commitment by our heads of state to strengthen the relations between Rwanda and the Kingdom of Jordan, at both the bilateral and multilateral levels,” he stated.
common objective
In addition to defense cooperation, the two leaders spoke about shared objectives to play a positive role in bringing peace with a focus on a number of industries, such as fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, trade, and tourism.
“We discussed our common goal to play a constructive role in bringing peace, security, and stability to our respective regions and beyond,” Biruta said in a joint statement with Safadi.
At a press conference, Ayman al-Safadi gave specifics on the new agreements that were signed: “We signed one agreement and two MOUs. One relates to housing and urban development, while the other informs inhabitants of the two nations that visas are no longer required for admission. And a third one concerning collaboration in the field of diplomatic training. Ten agreements and memoranda of understanding have already been inked between the two nations overall.
The Aqaba Process, which tries to combine resources to fight terrorism, has been hailed by the Jordanian foreign minister for the contribution of Rwanda.
By the end of this year or the beginning of next, the east African country might host a new round of the competition, according to Safadi.
King Abdullah II of Jordan was also received by Rwanda’s top diplomat.
