The MEXT Scholarship program for the Japanese Government has an application deadline of June 8 and has just launched, according to the Japanese Embassy in Qatar.
This is for Qatari students who want to enroll in colleges and universities. There are two different kinds of scholarships available from MEXT (the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology): undergraduate and graduate degrees.
For Graduate Studies, applicants must be Qatari citizens, have been born after April 2, 1989, have completed a program with a standard study period of three years or more at universities or other institutions of higher learning outside of Japan, and have obtained a degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree. They must also be willing to study Japanese and submit a health certificate in the required format, signed by a doctor at the university where they plan to study.
Entrance test, matriculation, and university tuition are all fully paid for by the scholarship.
The monthly salary for a doctor is JPY145,000, JPY144,000 for regular masters, and JPY143,000 for non-regular masters. JPY2,000 or JPY3,000 will be added if the beneficiary undertakes research in a defined area.
Due to budgetary constraints, the dollar amount each year may change. Additionally, one round-trip airline ticket between Japan and Qatar is covered by the scholarship.
For non-regular students, the study session lasts from April 2024 to March 2026 or, for the month of October, from September or October 2024 to March 2026. For those who need it, the first six months of the scholarship will be used as a period of preparatory Japanese language instruction.
Undergraduate applicants must also meet the following requirements in order to be considered: they must be Qatari citizens, born after April 2, 1999, and have completed 12 years of formal education in a country other than Japan. They must also meet these requirements before March 2024 in order to be considered. However, those who want to enroll beginning in the autumn semester through direct placement must have completed 12 years of school by August 2024 and be open to studying Japanese. Additionally, candidates should be open to studying Japanese in Japan for academic purposes.
The scholarship includes one round-trip plane ticket from Japan to Qatar as well as full tuition at universities, including entrance exams, matriculation, and fees. It also includes a monthly allowance of JPY117,000 and an additional JPY2,000 or 3,000 if the recipient conducts research in a specific region.
Applicants must be able to land in Japan between April 1, 2024, and April 7, 2024 on the departure date. The home residence must be left on or after April 1, 2024.
An applicant must be able to travel to Japan during the time period provided by the accepted university within two weeks before and after the commencement date of the university’s relevant academic term for that year if he plans to enroll in his university from the autumn semester through direct placement.
