WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook down for users Globally

Thousands of users reported being unable to access WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook on Monday. Users on social media took to Twitter to complain about their inability to access the aforementioned sites’ services.

Downdetector.com, a website that tracks traffic issues on major websites, also saw an increase in the number of reports confirming that many people are unable to access WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.

More than 20,000 people have reported that WhatsApp is not functioning properly for them. This error message is also displayed on web.whatsapp.com – 5xx Server Error. Instagram is also displaying the – 5xx Server Error – message.

The Facebook website shows an error message “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.”

WhatsApp is unable to send or receive messages, and the messaging interfaces of Instagram and Facebook are also unavailable.

The outage has been confirmed by news agencies Reuters and AFP. The outage has potentially affected tens of millions of users.

According to the website downdetector.com, at least 87,000 people reported being unable to access Facebook as of the time of writing. While social media users reported a WhatsApp outage around 8.45pm (local time), downdetector.com reported an increase in reports of a Facebook outage around 8.57pm (local time).

Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp took to Twitter to release a statement regarding the outage.

The messaging app issued a statement later saying it is working to fix the outage. “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible,” WhatsApp said. 

Social media giant Facebook also issued a statement saying that all efforts are being taken to restore services affecting millions across the globe. “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience,” Facebook said. 

Instagram also posted a similar message via its official communications handle. “Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them. Bear with us, we’re on it! #instagramdown,” it said.
