Removing subsidies: Labour calling off the statewide strike

The Organized Labor Union, following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, has postponed its statewide strike action less than 24 hours after announcing protests against the elimination of fuel subsidy.

The suspension of the strike was predicated on the meeting with President Tinubu, who promised swift action to some of the problems addressed during the meeting by the Labour leaders, a senior source in the Organized Labour Union confirmed to Vanguard.

The NLC and TUC have reportedly started a national strike yesterday to enforce some of their demands against the elimination of fuel subsidies, according to Vanguard.

A day before the Labour Union announced its strike action, President Tinubu made a national broadcast to Nigerians to explain how his administration is addressing the suffering brought on by the loss of gasoline subsidies in an effort to appease the labor union. The NLC criticized the broadcast and disputed assertions made by the federal government that the withdrawal of gasoline subsidies will save N1 trillion.
