In order to increase awareness of the significance of metrology and its immediate impact on all facets of contemporary life, the Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology (QS) joined its counterparts in celebrating World Metrology Day, which falls on May 20 each year.

The 2023 World Metrology Day will be observed under the theme “Measurements supporting the global food system,” according to QS, confirming the significance of metrology in many facets of daily life.

Due to the significant increase in the number of requests for calibration activities in the nation, according to QS, the company has expanded the capabilities of its industrial and legal calibration laboratory, which is responsible for calibrating balances, weights, and thermometers. It has also developed new activities in the fields of engineering dimensions, electrical quantities, and the calibration of all types of pressure meters. The laboratory, it was added, is outfitted with the newest gadgets and technologies, such as pressure meters, engineering dimensions calibration laboratories, thermal measurements calibration laboratories, and electrical quantities calibration laboratories.

The Metre Convention, an international agreement signed in Paris in 1875 that laid the groundwork for cooperation among nations regarding measurement units, is commemorated on this day.
