In order to revitalize skill development at the institutions, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has authorized N130 million as a zonal intervention for polytechnics in its 2023 investment.
This was said yesterday in Abuja at the TETFund/NBTE Sensitization Workshop on 2023 Zonal Intervention on Skills for Rectors and Directors of Skills at Beneficiary Polytechnics. Director of Infrastructure, Buhari Mika’Ilu.
According to Mika’Ilu, the intervention was made to coordinate the National Board for Technical Education’s (NBTE) efforts to strengthen polytechnics’ capacity to carry out their duty.
He said that the intervention’s primary purpose was to assist colleges in fulfilling prerequisites for accreditation.
He said that it solely concentrated on academically relevant initiatives, addressing gaps in the basic areas of acquiring necessary instructional materials and equipment for teaching and learning, as well as developing capacities for using equipment purchased.
”Funds were allocated in accordance with the Establishment Act’s provisions and oriented towards resolving urgent and essential needs of recipient institutions for enhancement of quality and maintenance of standards,” he said.
NBTE has been a leader in promoting the importance of skills in Nigeria’s educational system. The fund has prioritized the 2023 zonal allocation to polytechnics in response to this in order to revitalize skill acquisition.
Meanwhile, Sonny Echono, the TETFund’s executive secretary, gave polytechnic rectors a mandate to research cutting-edge ways to skill development and produce workable solutions that would improve the quality and applicability of technical education.
According to him, entrepreneurship and skill development are integral parts of a process in which people in society seize chances and creatively meet needs.
He pointed out that developing skills helps people overcome obstacles, prepares them for work across all economic sectors, and promotes a better future for both the country and the person.
