In an effort to prevent technology from disturbing teaching, the Netherlands said on Tuesday that it will prohibit cell phones from classrooms.
The Dutch government has announced that from the start of the following school year, mobile phones, tablets, and smartwatches would not be permitted in the classroom.
It stated that there was “increasing evidence that mobile phones have a negative effect during lessons.” “Students perform worse because they can’t focus as well.”
Mobile phones, tablets, and smartwatches will no longer be permitted in classrooms as of January 1, 2024, due to this reason.
By October, the government is requesting that school administrators reach internal agreements with staff members, parents, and students.
The government’s center-right coalition says it reserves the right to do so after evaluating results in the coming year, but has not yet enacted a formal ban.
Robbert Dijkgraaf, the minister of education, told the legislature that he hoped the change would bring about a “cultural transformation” and enhance education.
