Mali’s suspension from the West African Economic and Monetary Union is lifted

1 min read

The West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) declared on Saturday that Mali’s exclusion from its organizations and bodies had been lifted.

Mali has been expelled from the group since January 2022 in order to support the junta’s plan to hold onto power for another five years.

Following the initial coup in August 2020, Mali was also expelled from the regional organization ECOWAS.

After the junta declared a transitional period lasting until March 2024, the trade and financial sanctions were lifted in July 2022.

On the way to returning to civilian administration in March 2024, the Malian people overwhelmingly accepted the draft of a new Constitution in June.
