Tuesday saw a commemoration staged by Kenyan opposition leaders in memory of the 30 persons killed by police violence during rallies against growing living expenses and the imposition of new levies.
Police have been accused of deploying live ammunition to shoot at protestors in places where the opposition has strong political backing.
The ministry reported that during the protests, one cop died and more than 300 others were hurt.
The vigil was captured on camera with candles being lit, sobbing, and a mother sobbing at the loss of her son.
“Why are they receiving praise? They are slaughtering their own citizens. There is too much savagery. Where are we going as a country? Zamzam Mohammed Chimba, a Kenyan lawmaker, remarked.
People have been protesting for the past three weeks all throughout Kenya, criticizing President William Ruto’s administration for the rising cost of living and recently implemented taxes that have increased the price of fuel because the tax on petroleum goods was raised from 8% to 16%.
The police were criticized by human rights organizations for deploying excessive force to disperse protests.
