The Cultural Village, Katara was filled with the sounds of Italian music on Tuesday as it celebrated the long-standing connection between its language and music. The event was titled “Italian – Language of Music” and was hosted there.
This creative performance was organized by the Italian Embassy in Qatar in association with the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, and the European Delegation in Doha as a part of the ongoing European Language Activities series taking place at Katara.
The presentation illuminated how Italian music has developed over time into a worldwide language for comprehending the art of music through its notation, instruments, and lyrics. It demonstrated how Dante’s language has been embraced by performers, singers, and aficionados all throughout the world as they explore the world of melodies and harmonies.
The development of Italian literature was greatly aided by Dante Alighieri, who is frequently referred to as the “Father of the Italian language.” The poem “The Divine Comedy” (La Divina Commedia), which is regarded as one of the greatest literary creations in Western literature, is what made him most famous.
The three performers—talented pianist Alessio Mastrodonato, principal violist of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra Giovanni Pasini, and opera vocalist David Ricardo—led the program’s lively discussions, mesmerizing live performances, and interactive components. They expertly combined motifs from several historical periods, from the Renaissance to the present.
Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, general manager of Katara, expressed his excitement for the occasion by saying: “As a continuation of Katara’s endeavors to open dialogue with different civilizations, and to build bridges of knowledge communication between nations, it embraces the activities of the language of music in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Qatar, as part of the events of the European language in Katara.”
“There is no doubt that this is a significant and illuminating arena that fosters cultural exchange and conversation while also helping to bring about harmony and rapprochement amongst civilizations. We are happy to continue to strengthen this cross-cultural dependency through a variety of initiatives.
The collaboration between Italy and Katara was welcomed by the Italian ambassador to Qatar, H E Paolo Toschi, who said: “We are delighted to be in Katara with an event encompassing two of Italy’s great treasures: language and music.”
We are happy to present this new project to the people of Doha because of our excellent friendship and collaborative relationship with Katara Cultural Village. The ambassador added that he is pleased to use the event to show the general public the elegance and rich history of the Italian language and music. He emphasized that Italian music originated 900 years ago and has since developed to “become the source of love and inspiration around the world.”
