Football history is made in Adelaide by Morocco

1 min read

By defeating South Korea this past Sunday in the Women’s World Cup in Adelaide, Australia, Morocco created history.

The Atlas Lionesses have won their first match in a Women’s World Cup.

After six minutes, Morocco scored and maintained their lead.

The first senior-level player to wear a hijab in a World Cup game was Nouhaila Benzina of Morocco, a defender.

In several nations, including France, it is still prohibited to play football while wearing a veil. After the “Hijabeuses” collective appealed, requesting a change in the rules, the French Council of State recently upheld the ban imposed by the French Football Federation.

Morocco remains in the running to move on to the knockout round after their victory.
