Within a few hours, Page’s name had been changed on Netflix, where he stars in The Umbrella Academy. Variety reported that he would continue to play the role of Vanya Hargreeves, citing insiders who said there would be no change of gender for the female character.

They weren’t the only ones.
Musicians Tegan and Sara commended Page on his “strength, bravery and activism.”
Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres sent well wishes of her own, calling out Page’s “courage and honesty.”
Kat Dennings, Natasha Lyonne, Dan Levy and Ugly Betty’s Michael Urie were among those who sent heart emojis.
GLAAD noted that Page has long been an advocate for the LGBTQ community. “Elliot will now be an inspiration to countless trans and non-binary people. We celebrate him,” the advocacy organization said in part.
