On Wednesday, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency obtained an order from the Federal High Court in Lagos authorizing the ultimate confiscation of 111 motorcycles and cars that alleged drug dealers had left behind.
The agency was also given permission to sell the automobiles that had been forfeited and pay the Federal Government the earnings.
After hearing from the NDLEA’s attorney, Abu Ibrahim, Justice Ayokunle Faji issued the orders.
Abu informed the court that the orders sought were pursuant to Sections 44 (2)(b) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution of 1999 (As Modified) and Section 3 (1)(a)(c) of the NDLEA Act N.30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The request, according to him, was made in accordance with Sections 10 (1), (2)(3), 11, 13, and 17 (1)(4) of the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Act of 2022, as well as the court’s inherent jurisdiction and Section 6 (6) (a) of the 1999 Constitution.
The NDLEA attorney also informed the court that the automobiles were ultimately forfeited due to the fact that no one had expressed an interest in any of them were now in varying states of decline.
