CITN backs Tinubu’s tax reform proposals

1 min read

The Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms has been established by the Federal Government with the full backing of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

As previously mentioned, President Bola Tinubu recently issued four executive orders that included important fiscal policy measures, including as the suspension of the 5% excise tax on telecommunication services and the excise duty on domestically produced automobiles.

Samuel Agbeluyi, President of CITN, praised the activities and predicted that the committee’s mandate will increase the effectiveness of revenue collection, promote openness, build a positive tax culture, and promote voluntary compliance.

For the reforms to be inclusive and substantive, he also urged for an open dialogue with and participation from all parties involved in the Nigerian tax system.

Agbeluyi reaffirmed CITN’s determination to engage in the present reforms process fully, as it has done in the past.

He commended Tinubu for selecting CITN member Mr. Taiwo Oyedele to lead the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.
