According to the provincial governor of Rwanda, ten students perished after their boat capsized in a river.
The kids perished on Monday while the boat was attempting to cross the Nyabarongo River, Southern region governor Alice Kayitesi said The Associated Press. Following their summer break from school, the pupils had just returned.
The 11 to 15-year-old children’s bodies were discovered on Tuesday and Wednesday. Three students and one man made it through.
The boat’s hirer has been taken into custody and questioned.
Authorities, according to Kayitesi, are looking into rumors that students were being transported across the river to unload construction supplies.
