The cloud computing arm of Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O), Amazon Web Services (AWS), announced on Monday that it will strengthen Thailand’s infrastructure over the next 15 years by investing $5 billion there.
According to a statement from AWS, the investment would go toward building data centers as well as purchasing goods and services from local companies.
In order to better serve customers in the area and set up an infrastructure hub in Bangkok, Thailand, the company also plans to do so.
According to Supattanapong Punmeechaow, deputy prime minister of Thailand, AWS’s intention to establish data centers in Thailand is a significant step toward achieving Thailand 4.0, which aims to transform the country into a value-based economy by providing advanced cloud computing services to more businesses.
More than 200 services, including storage, robotics, and artificial intelligence, are available on the AWS cloud platform.
AWS opened its first cloud data center in the UAE last month and revealed plans to establish a local hub there to increase client bandwidth.
AWS has introduced 10 Amazon Cloudfront edge locations in Bangkok since 2020. The edge locations support faster delivery of data, videos, and applications to users.
