According to South African officials, a mysterious explosion that occurred during rush hour in central Johannesburg on Wednesday tore through a prominent thoroughfare and injured 41 people.
Emergency services first attributed the explosion, which damaged the asphalt and turned over vehicles, including minibus taxis, to subterranean gas pipes, but the Egoli Gas business indicated it was “unlikely” that this was the reason.
“There has been no pressure drop in our network, indicating the gas pipelines are in good condition. Gas is still being delivered to our local consumers without interruption, the business said in a statement.
Panyaza Lesufi, the provincial premier of Gauteng, which covers Johannesburg and Pretoria, declared that it was “a miracle there are no fatalities.”
41 persons were hurt, including 30 with minor injuries, 9 with serious injuries, and 2 in critical condition Lesufi said that the injuries were minimal.
According to him, a preliminary investigation did not identify the explosion’s cause.
He declared, “(The) situation is entirely under control.”
He stated that experts will “get the full view and advise us.”
“The damage is significant. A horrible circumstance exists… It was very busy.
