A transformer explosion in northern India results in 15 electrocutions

In northern India, a transformer explosion caused the electrocution deaths of 15 persons on Wednesday, including six police officers, according to the authorities.

According to police official Parmendra Doval, a number of more persons were hurt in the collision on the banks of the Alaknanda river and taken to a hospital in the Chamoli region of the state of Uttarakhand.

The explosion’s immediate cause was unknown, therefore the state’s chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, requested an investigation.

The catastrophe took place when record monsoon rains in northern India caused water levels in most rivers to increase. Over 100 individuals have died in the area in the last three weeks as a result of severe flooding.

11 persons were killed in April in southern India while participating in a Hindu holiday parade when their truck contacted an overhead electricity line.
