The Fifth Youth Research Forum 2023 was recently held at Qatar University (QU) in association with a number of regional and global partners. The discussion forum’s main topic was “Higher Education Institutions’ Role in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals.”

Students engaged in research from many fields globally attended the event. Participants in the forum also presented their research initiatives during a session for research posters that was dedicated to that theme. Sustainable energy, sustainable agriculture, sustainable transportation, and sustainable cities were just a few of the issues that were covered in the posters.

The forum gave participants a venue to share their research findings, engage in intellectual conversation, and debate how higher education institutions may help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a group of seven global objectives that were chosen by the UN General Assembly in 2015 and are meant to be accomplished by 2030. The SDGs address a wide range of issues, including reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below the ocean, life on land, and peace and justice. Some of the issues covered by the SDGs include poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation, and infrastructure.

The event was quite successful in giving the attendees the chance to share their research findings and gain knowledge from one another’s experiences.

Additionally, the forum gave participants a great place to network and work together. Of the 276 scientific abstracts and posters submitted to the forum, 186 were eligible for participation. 36 abstracts and posters from 17 nations, including Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Jordan, Palestine, Iran, Mauritania, Tajikistan, Sweden, Italy, Canada, and Russia, were among the submissions that were accepted.

A group of professors and students from the College of Dental Medicine (CDEM) at QU took first place in the latest competition by displaying their research posters titled “The Relationship between Oral Health and Stomach Cancer: A Systematic Review.”
