Airtel Africa is a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services in 14 countries across Africa. Today, the company announced that its subsidiary in Zambia, Airtel Networks Zambia plc (called “Airtel Zambia”), has bought 60 MHz of additional spectrum in the 800 MHz and 2600 MHz bands from the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) for a total of $29 million, paid in local currency.

This extra spectrum will help us expand our network in the market for both mobile data and fixed wireless home broadband, including the rollout of 5G. This will give us a lot of room to handle the strong growth of data in the country.
