Napoli’s Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, has suffered a right thigh injury while on international duty, confirmed the reigning Italian champions on Monday. The club disclosed that Osimhen’s examinations revealed a medium-type lesion in the biceps femoris of his right thigh and that he has commenced rehabilitation at the club’s training center. Specific details regarding the injury were not provided.
According to reports from Corriere delle Sport, Osimhen could be sidelined for approximately a month, causing him to miss Napoli’s upcoming four league matches and two Champions League fixtures until the next international break in mid-November.
The injury occurred during a friendly match between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia in Portimao (Algarve), Portugal, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Osimhen, who was Serie A’s top scorer last season when Napoli clinched the title, had netted six goals in the first eight matches of the current Italian Championship.
Napoli currently sits in fifth place in the league standings, trailing the leader, AC Milan, by seven points. Their coach, Frenchman Rudy Garcia, is under pressure after the team suffered two home defeats in the league.
