Rihanna will perform at the Oscars, the Super Bowl of movies, as a follow-up to her electrifying Super Bowl halftime show.
The “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” song “Lift Me Up” will be performed by the music superstar, according to the telecast’s producers on Thursday.
The song “Lift Me Up,” with lyrics by Tems and Ryan Coogler and music by Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson, is up for best original song. It is Rihanna’s first nomination for an Oscar.
The Barbadian superstar performed 12 of her hits in 13 minutes earlier this month at the Super Bowl at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, while decked out in a vivid red jumpsuit. She also revealed during the performance that she was expecting her second child.
The 95th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air live on ABC and other broadcast networks on March 12.
Lady Gaga, who was nominated for “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick,” is one of Rihanna’s Oscar rivals. The song, which Lady Gaga co-wrote with BloodPop, is her fourth nomination; she and Bradley Cooper won an Oscar for “Shallow” in 2019.
The song “Applause” from “Tell It Like a Woman” earned Diane Warren her 14th Oscar nomination, making her another nominee. At the Governors Awards last year, the prolific songwriter received an honorary Oscar.
The Chandrabose-penned “Naatu Naatu” from “RRR,” performed by M.M. Keeravaani, and “This is a Life,” from “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” are also up for best original song.
Ryan Lott, who along with his band Son Lux was also nominated for best original score, worked with Mitski, David Byrne, and Ryan Lott to create the latter song.
