At the invitational Revelation Cup 2023 in Leon, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, led by American coach Randy Waldrum, continued their downward spiral as the nine-time African champions were defeated by hosts Mexico by an odd goal.

Even though the Falcons are traveling to the FIFA Women’s World Cup that will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand in the summer, this defeat marked the team’s sixth straight defeat under Waldrum.

Kiana Palacios, a Mexican, emerged victorious from the fight. In the 85th minute, she headed a cross into the goal to score the game’s only goal.

Super Falcons’ last victory came against Cameron at the Morocco-hosted 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. At the semi-final stage of that competition, they lost.

The Nigerian women’s national football team still has a chance to improve their reputation at this tournament when they play Colombia on Saturday, but most analysts think that using the same starting lineup as their match against Mexico on Wednesday night will only make Nigerians’ hearts break.

The first 20 minutes of this game were dominated by the Nigerian women, who struggled to convert the opportunities they created.

With Barcelona star Asisat Oshoala noticeably absent, Nigerian forward Rasheedat Ajibade, who currently resides in Spain, served as team captain.

Chiamaka Nnadozie, a goalkeeper based in France, performed admirably once more to prevent the Super Falcons from suffering a severe loss.
