The police said in a statement on Monday, October 3, that a German tourist was killed by gunmen who stopped his car near the sizable Kruger Park game reserve on Monday in South Africa.
The Mdluli Safari lodge, a luxurious lodge about 15 kilometers from the northeastern Kruger Park, was the destination for four German tourists when they were stopped by three armed men who demanded that they open the car doors.
The driver then locked the doors, and one of the suspects shot him in the upper body through the window, according to preliminary investigations, killing him there and then, according to the police.
Without taking anything from the tourists, the attackers then drove off in their car.
According to its spokesman Christopher Schmidt, the German embassy in South Africa is in contact with local authorities about the “tragic incident” and is “looking after the German nationals who were affected.”
The Kruger, the largest national park in South Africa and one of the most popular wildlife reserves for tourists, is a 20,000 square kilometer area of unfenced savannah that extends into neighboring Mozambique.
The Department of Tourism of South Africa expressed its condolences and urged the police to track down and arrest the attackers.
