Barcelona Reclaims La Liga Lead with Dominant Win Over Girona

1 min read

Barcelona surged three points clear at the top of La Liga on Sunday after a commanding 4-1 victory over Girona at the Olympic Stadium.

Following Real Madrid’s win over Leganes on Saturday, which briefly saw them draw level on points, Hansi Flick’s side responded emphatically to reclaim their advantage.

Polish forward Robert Lewandowski played a key role, netting twice to maintain his position as the league’s top scorer, staying three goals ahead of Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe, who had also scored a brace over the weekend.

Barcelona extended their unbeaten streak in 2025 to 20 matches, opening the scoring just before halftime when Girona’s Ladislav Krejci inadvertently put the ball into his own net.

Despite Girona’s Arnaut Danjuma equalizing, Barcelona quickly regained control. Lewandowski found the net twice, and Ferran Torres sealed the comprehensive win.

Girona, who defeated Barcelona twice last season, have struggled to replicate that form and now sit 13th in the standings.

Reflecting on the performance, Lewandowski told DAZN, We played with patience, followed our plan, and when we do that, we can always score goals and win games.”
