Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the president’s wife, has apologized to Nigerians for the harsh economic situation and insecurities being felt under the Buhari-led administration.

On Friday, September 30, 2022, at the National Mosque Conference Hall in Abuja, during her speech at the 62nd Independence Day Special Juma’at prayer and Public Lecture with the theme “Shura: The Islamic Foundation of True Democracy,” Mrs. Buhari apologized.

Buhari, who acknowledged that his administration may not have been flawless, took the chance to apologize to Nigerians and urged them to remain steadfast in their prayers for a peaceful transfer of power in 2023.

She also urged Nigerians to stick together in order to bring peace to the nation’s troubled regions.

In the words of Buhari, “The regime may not have been flawless, but I want to take this chance to ask for forgiveness from the Ulamas and Nigerians as a whole. To make Nigeria better, we all must cooperate.

“Your Excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, as you may be aware, I ask Nigerians to pray for a successful election and transition program. This government is leaving office, and we may be witnessing the last anniversary of the regime.

“The regime may not have been flawless, but I want to take advantage of this chance to ask for forgiveness from the Ulamas and Nigerians as a whole. To make Nigeria better, we all must cooperate.

“Your Excellencies, distinguished guests, it is also apparent that our Naira is being evaluated and that the impact of the foreign exchange rate on our economy has resulted in significant hardship and challenges for our citizens’ access to healthcare, education, and other day-to-day activities.”

Buhari commends security forces: Mrs. Buhari also praised the work of the Nigerian security forces in protecting the nation from terrorism and other security threats, saying that Nigerians “must unite and fight against security challenges.”

She also discussed the work her office has been doing to support government efforts to improve the welfare of its constituents, including initiatives in agriculture, entrepreneurship, and the involvement of young people and women to mitigate the effects and offer alternatives.

In the words of Buhari, “I’m particularly happy that our security agents have more than ever before met the challenges of security. And right now, their efforts have contributed to the spread of banditry, kidnapping, and many other social ills.

I salute the efforts of our brave security personnel and I’d like to pray for continued success in their work.
